Hey there my friends!

I was browsing a forum yesterday reading a few people’s posts about their unhappiness with support not getting back to them and was left scratching my head. The company recently switched software enhancing the ease of use and some people were having difficulties with the new system.

Well, I had gone through the exact same upgrade as everyone else and had absolutely no problems and indicated that in the forum. Then this morning the company submitted an email to everyone in the business that the trouble was 98% the fact that the person having troubles did not uninstall the old system they had properly so it was conflicting with the new software.

What makes me puzzled is this upgrade just happened yesterday and already there were people freaking out about the system.

It amazes me the impatience of people. They think the magic wand will appear and presto everything will be perfect and when it is not who do they look to immediately as the source of the issue? The programmer of course! Certainly the person that has years of experience in software engineering and programming would be the one with the issue certanly not the person that doesn’t even know what “SEO” stands for!

It’s like watching American Idol with someone that is afraid to speak to a crowd and cannot carry a tune to save their lives but can sit on the couch eating a bag of Doritos shouting “Wow that guy is horrible”. Give me a break! Put yourself in the shoes of the programmer, or can you? Probably not. I can’t that’s for sure. I am amazed at some of the things people can do on the internet it awes me.

It intrigues me that the same whiners and complainers are the same people that use Twitter and Facebook daily and don’t complain when Twitter is over capacity or Facebook freezes up. They “expect” it from them because of their massive popularity. It’s “expected” then. Actually, that’s it in a nutshell. EVERY program will have its glitches, every software program needs to be tweaked. Every new start up company has its bumps in the road, sometimes even potholes.

But the lazy guy sitting on the couch eating the bag of Doritos never looks at himself and says “Perhaps I did something wrong” and then has a hissy fit when he doesn’t get a response from support in 24 hours.
Reason why? Because there are 100 more just like him doing the same thing.

So next time you are ready to scream at the programmer or support for not getting back to you in a timely manner, try maybe looking at perhaps something you may have done to cause the issue and if you contact support be courteous, most of the people out there are trying to help you as best and as fast as they can.

Wow you would think I am working for a programmer with this post but no I am not, just speaking my mind as usual. :)

Happy Weekend All!

  1. Laura, you are so spot on right. We live in an age of instant gratification. An “I WANT IT NOW” scenario. Try as one may, it is very difficult to please all the people all the time; especially the couch potatoes. All they can do successfully is criticize and break one’s will.

  2. Laura you are right. A lot of times its the couch potato that can hardly get his/her-self’s butt up off the couch are the ones complaining the most. I just ran into the same thing today on another program I belong to. They made their 1st pay-run yesterday and said it would be 15 days before it was posted to each individuals accounts. It was almost instantly a group was created wondering if the program was a scam. These people want instant gratification.
    Patience Please!
